Van Honsebrouck Sörfőzde (1900), Ingelmunster
As we have seen so far, new winds are blowing in the world of Belgian brewing: in accordance with a relatively new trend reminiscent of the past, today’s beers belonging to one of the highest quality categories are made using a special process, in most cases aging in oak barrels. The brewery of the noble Van Honsebrouck family, which looks back on a glorious past of hundreds of years, unsurprisingly chose a barrel for the production of its top-class beer, in which one of the noblest drinks in the world, French cognac, was not previously matured. The oak, as well as the cognac sealed in it, contribute to the beer’s character with a whole palette of special, sophisticated flavors and aromas. They do not suppress, but perfectly complement the exciting taste of the base beer – the deservedly famous Kasteel Triple. A very rich, full-flavored beer that cannot deny its noble origins. The world’s first triple beer aged in cognac barrels is not only the pride of the Brewery, but also its strongest beer with its 12% alcohol content. Only nine thousand bottles of the first brew, produced in 2013, were sold. A very rare beer specialty made in limited quantities.
